our story

From a local delivery boy to a national haulage company, Devereux has become one of the top names when it comes to distribution and transport in the UK. The family founded business is still run by the Devereux family now in its 3rd generation still working in the business.

where it all began...

Kenneth William Devereux created his first business in 1937 at the age of just 14, starting out with a hand kart to move goods including firewood. The company went from strength to strength and soon Ken was moving whole houses.

Ken’s business was interrupted when he joined the war effort. Upon returning Ken established the company we see today. In 1946 the company purchased their first second hand van, which Ken was able to use to expand into more commercial transportation.

At the end of the 40s an opportunity to move into general haulage arose. The new venture meant moving large fans from Stockton to the new lines of the London Underground.

With the expansion of the Teesside Industrial complex of heavy industries in the early 1960s, KW Devereux and Sons was also able to expand, moving materials to the new steel works. By the late 60s distinctive red Devereux trucks were traveling up and down the country transporting a variety of products.

Devereux has grown beyond recognition from the small workforce it once was and now employs nearly 200 staff. In its third generation and in the safe hands of Kens sons, Devereux continues to maintain its name as one of the North East’s leading transport firms. To this day Devereux is also still in the commercial and domestic removals sector maintaining it’s connection with it’s roots after more than ¾ of a century.

Devereux has built its business on a bedrock of loyal customers who value the personal experience and customer service that a family-owned business can provide.
